Fascinating Scent Tracking Book (manual) by Susan H Eldred and Orrin Eldred
This book is a manual on tracking covering methods, problem solving, background, experiences, theory. It is written in a light, easy-to-read manner. The author has added black and white photographs to help illustrate her points as well as drawings and charts as needed.
Available as a printed book with some color and some black and white photos for $20. Also available as a full-color book on a CD for $20. The printed book along with the CD is available for $30.
This is a 100 page workbook with fun exercises for you and your dog. The book is 8 ½” by 11” in a comb binding, so it will lay flat when open. The first part of the book contains the exercises and directions. Part II is a section on problem solving including which exercises will help with which problems. Both sections are illustrated with photos and diagrams or charts.
These exercises were developed for use in the Fascinating Scent tracking camps. Since many people can’t get to camp, they can now take advantage of the exercises used to improve their dogs’ confidence and their handling.
Tracking Essentials: Getting Off to a Good Start by Susan H. Eldred
is a short pamphlet (6 pages) that describes the most current method I use to start dogs in tracking. This has been developed through years of teaching dogs at tracking camp. It gets the dogs and handlers off to a solid foundation in a short time, allowing the team to start tracking regular tracks very quickly. It is written for those new to the sport as well as experienced handlers. The pages come in a sleeve protector so they can be added to a notebook. It sells for $5. It is a wonderful companion to the other two books.
